Janak 2002
First ascents of Himalayan peaks
Until the Danish Janak Expedition visited the North Eastern corner of Nepal in the autumn 2002 the two peaks, Pandra, 6673 m. and Danga, 6238 m. were unclimbed. After 4 weeks and a total of 4 attempts the two peaks were successfully climbed for the first time.
It was a peculiar experience to enter an area where the three maps we had were completely different, and the only way to verify the maps was to try them out. That led us into some blind alleys but in the end we succeded in finding our way to the bottom of the mountains and to find possible routes on the the two mountains.
Three expedition climbers Allan Christensen, Jan Mathorne and Bo Belvedere Christensen attained the summit of the two peaks in the alpine style climbs leading to the first ascents.
